Car sales jump by 31% in May

JAKARTA (JP): Domestic sales of four-wheeled drive vehicles surged 31 percent in May to 27,304 units from 20,772 units the previous month, according to the latest report from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

Sales of passenger cars in May rose to 4,614 units from 3,458 units in April, while commercial car sales increased to 22,692 from 17,314 last month.

Car exports increased to 4,904 units in May from 4,390 in April, bringing the total number of cars sold locally and overseas to 32,210 units from 25,162 units in April.

During the same period, domestic sales of motorcycles rose by 34 percent to 71,537 units from 53,334 units in April. (bkm)
