Car sales grow 77%
JAKARTA (JP): Domestic vehicle sales grew by 77 percent to 94,023 vehicles in 1999 from just 53,032 a year earlier, according to data at the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries released on Monday.
Meanwhile, exports for 1999 totaled 31,660 vehicles.
New car sales -- both domestic and exports -- totaled 125,683 vehicles, of which 60 percent were supplied by auto giant PT Astra International.
Car sales plunged in 1998, when the regional financial crisis hit its peak, from 386,691 vehicles in 1997.
Motorcycle sales reached 487,759 units last year, of which 275,195 came from Astra.
