Car Horns Sound in Solidarity as Students Protest Government Policies

The University of Indonesia Student Executive Board held a demonstration at the Bundaran HI roundabout in Central Jakarta on Friday (12/6). During the protest, students asked passing motorists to sound their vehicle horns as a show of support for the action taking place along Jalan Sudirman. Issues raised in the demonstration included calls to stop state budget wastage, reduce prices of basic necessities and fuel, evaluate the free meal programme and the ‘Koperasi Desa Merah Putih’ village cooperative scheme, and criticism of government policies concerning the current economic conditions and the depreciation of the rupiah.
