Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced that the Jakarta provincial government will hold a car-free night along Jalan MH Thamrin to Jalan Sudirman on Eid al-Fitr evening. In addition to the car-free night, a torch procession involving approximately 5,000 participants will be held during Eid evening in Jakarta.

“In welcoming Eid al-Fitr, on Eid al-Fitr evening, the Jakarta provincial government has decided to hold what is called a car-free night,” Pramono said in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Monday (16 March 2026).

“In addition, we will also permit a torch procession with approximately 5,000 participants, and we are providing space as widely as possible. Hopefully, this Eid will leave a deep impression for anyone who participates,” he added.

Pramono stated that public transport in Jakarta will also be free during Eid. All public transport in Jakarta will be free for two days.

“I have decided to welcome Eid for two days, then all public transport managed by the Jakarta provincial government will be free. Whether it is the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, TransJabodebek, JakLingko, or Mikrotrans, everything will be free,” he said.

Additionally, Pramono announced that several tourist attractions in Jakarta will be free of charge so that residents who do not travel home for Eid can still enjoy the holiday in the capital. Tourist attractions offered free of charge include Ancol, the National Monument, and Ragunan Zoo.

“In fact, for mothers whose children hold a KJP card, entry to Ancol, Ragunan, and the National Monument will be free. Why are we doing this? The Jakarta provincial government has decided that the theme of this Eid exodus is ‘Mudik ke Jakarta’ (Mudik to Jakarta). Why do I mention Mudik to Jakarta? So that those who stay behind rather than return to their home villages can still enjoy Eid well in Jakarta,” he explained.

“Furthermore, all shopping centres and hotels — the Jakarta provincial government has waived a portion of their taxes. We will have a discount festival of up to 70 per cent. If there is a discount, the atmosphere becomes very lively. It becomes even more lively if vouchers are distributed as well,” Pramono added.
