Car Free Night to Be Held in Jakarta on Takbiran Night, Note the Time
The Jakarta Provincial Government is introducing a new way to celebrate Takbiran night through the Car Free Night event in the heart of the capital. The event will take place along Jalan MH Thamrin to Sudirman on Friday, 20 March 2026, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM WIB. With the theme “Eid Mubarak Jakarta: Rhythm of Fountain”, the Bundaran HI area will be transformed into a lively celebration centre. Various attractions are prepared, ranging from rampak beduk, a 1,000-drum festival, to a torch parade involving 5,000 participants. A religious atmosphere will also be present through a lecture by Ustadz Akri and a special performance by Hadad Alwi, adding to the solemnity of Takbiran night. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that this activity is an innovation to provide a new experience for residents in enjoying Takbiran night. In addition to entertainment, Car Free Night is also part of the ‘Mudik ke Jakarta’ programme, which invites the public to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in a more open and inclusive capital atmosphere. To support the smooth running of the event, the Jakarta Provincial Government will implement traffic engineering around the location. “Private vehicles are not permitted to enter, but Transjakarta will continue to operate so that the public can still carry out activities and enjoy the event,” said Pramono. Although access for private vehicles is limited, the public can still rely on normal Transjakarta services as an alternative mode of transport to the event location. With this Car Free Night concept, Takbiran night in Jakarta is expected to be more festive yet comfortable, serving as a space for togetherness for residents to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with joy.
