The Jakarta Provincial Government has designated the motor vehicle-free night (Car Free Night) on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin during the eve of Eid as a permanent fixture. “Of course, events like this will become a tradition, so next year we will organise them more neatly and better,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to the press after Eid prayers in the courtyard of Jakarta City Hall on Saturday morning. According to Pram, the tradition that began on this eve of Eid succeeded in keeping the celebrations more orderly and neat. He also appreciated the residents’ enthusiasm in still enlivening the event despite the rain that fell briefly. “So, we thank you for the Car Free Night that went well. Although it rained at first, alhamdulillah, the response from Jakarta residents was extraordinary. This is evident from the very high enthusiasm. And most importantly, everything ran safely and comfortably,” said Pramono. Previously, the motor vehicle-free night event took place along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin on the eve of Eid, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM WIB. The event was enlivened by various activities, from torch parades to the Bedug Festival.
