Car Free Night on Eid Eve Awaits Isbat Session Results, Pramono Anung Explains
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is still awaiting confirmation regarding the implementation of Car Free Night, which is planned to take place on the eve of Eid al-Fitr. This was stated by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, who noted that the final decision depends on the results of the isbat session.
“For Car Free Night, there is indeed a slight dilemma, because the isbat session will determine whether it is held on 19 or 20 March, and we are waiting for that. Hopefully it will be as expected,” said Pramono when met in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March.
He also assured that he will attend the event directly alongside Jakarta’s Deputy Governor Rano Karno, should the event proceed.
In its implementation plan, Pemprov DKI Jakarta has prepared several activities to enliven the Eid eve celebration. These range from the presence of government officials to various entertainment activities for the public.
“There will be several activities. The Governor and Deputy Governor will be present, along with all city hall officials, and of course there will be religious speakers, entertainment and so on,” Pramono explained.
Previously, Pemprov DKI Jakarta designed the Car Free Night to run along Jalan Sudirman to Thamrin. During the event, private vehicles will be prohibited from passing through the area in order to provide space for the public.
To facilitate mobility, residents wishing to attend the activities are encouraged to use public transport such as Transjakarta.
Additionally, the programme will be enlivened by a Bedug Festival featuring 16 finalists. A torch procession will also be held to add to the festive atmosphere of the Eid eve celebration.
Through these various activities, the public is expected to enjoy the evening before Eid al-Fitr in a safe, comfortable and joyful atmosphere.
