Car Free Night Held During Takbir Evening from 20:00-22:00 WIB
Jakarta — Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno announced that the vehicle-free evening, or Car Free Night, will be held along Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin Street during the takbir evening from 20:00 to 22:00 WIB.
He stated that the timing of the event has been changed to enable residents to prepare themselves for Eid prayers. “Car Free Night will run from 8 pm to 10 pm. Previously, we planned to start at 10 pm, but if it runs until midnight, that would hinder preparations for Eid prayers,” Rano said when met at the Monas area in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that Car Free Night will last for two hours. Several activities will be held during Car Free Night, including torch processions and the Bedug Festival.
However, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the Car Free Night plan is still awaiting the outcome of the isbat (lunar sighting) hearing decision. “For Car Free Night, there is indeed a slight dilemma, because the isbat hearing is whether it will be conducted on the 19th or 20th, we are still awaiting that. Hopefully it will be as expected,” said Pramono.
The event will be held along Sudirman-Thamrin Street. Consequently, private vehicles will be prohibited from passing through the street during the event. However, residents who wish to travel to the area can use Transjakarta, which will continue operating normally during the occasion.
He hopes that residents can enjoy the evening before Eid al-Fitr with joy.
