Car flees police, drives against traffic and hits several vehicles in Central Jakarta
A video of a car hitting several vehicles on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, has gone viral on social media. A group of citizens attacked the car.
In the video circulating on Wednesday (25/2/2026), the car is seen driving in the opposite direction. The car hit several motorcycles and avoided a crowd of citizens who were attacking it.
A number of citizens chased after the car. The car is seen moving forward and backward in an attempt to escape, eventually hitting a police car. After a while, the car was surrounded and stopped by citizens.
When confirmed, the Head of Traffic at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Arry Utomo, said the incident occurred at around 17:20 WIB. The incident began when the car was driving from north to south.
“When it arrived near the Lapangan Banteng bus stop and was about to be stopped by officers, the vehicle continued to drive and continued south,” he said.
Then, upon arriving at Jalan Gunung Sahari IV, the vehicle turned in the opposite direction. The vehicle then drove onto Jalan Bungur Besar Raya.
“When it arrived at Jalan Gunung Sahari V, the vehicle turned left, driving against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari V towards the east until it reached the MBAL intersection and continued driving on Jalan DR Sutomo towards the east,” he said.
Upon arriving near the Bintang Baru Hotel, the vehicle turned towards the west. Then it returned to the MBAL intersection and turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari towards the north.
“Until it reached the Pintu Besi intersection, the vehicle turned around, driving against traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari towards the south until it stopped near the Golden Truly bus stop, where it was attacked by a mob of road users and drivers,” he said.
He said there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. The car was then secured by the police.
“The damage to the minibus was significant, with damage to the rear body, broken glass, and dents in the rear body,” he said.
