A driver, identified as Hafiz Mahendra, caused chaos in Central Jakarta by driving against traffic and colliding with several vehicles. One person, a female motorcyclist, was injured in the incident.

The Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, stated that the victim, identified as NH, was a passenger on a motorcycle.

“The victim was grazed when the reckless driver made a U-turn,” Reynold told reporters on Wednesday (25/2).

Reynold confirmed that there were no fatalities as a result of the reckless driving and driving against traffic.

The incident caused damage to several vehicles, including a Toyota Calya with damage to the right side and a motorcycle with damage to the front and right side.

Previously, the incident was recorded in a video and went viral on social media, including on the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini.

The video shows a car driving against traffic in the middle of heavy traffic. A police officer is also seen trying to stop the vehicle.

The video also shows the police officer apparently firing a pistol into the air as a warning for the car to stop.

However, instead of stopping, the driver continued to accelerate and collided with several other vehicles, from motorcycles to cars.

The driver’s actions angered residents in the area, who were seen chasing the car and hitting it with helmets.

Reynold stated that the driver was driving recklessly and against traffic because he was found to be using fake license plates. He said that the driver immediately fled when he was about to be stopped by officers.

“He was suspected of using fake license plates on Jalan Gunung Sahari, so he was stopped by traffic officers Aiptu Basri and Aipda Jimber,” he said.

“He was afraid and fled, then drove onto Jalan Gunung Sahari and drove against traffic from south to north,” he added.
