Captain Miswar Maturusi and two other Indonesian nationals went missing after the tugboat Musaffah 2 exploded and sank in the Strait of Hormuz. Miswar had communicated with his wife, Marliani Ahmad, one day before the incident.

“Yes, we had a video call as usual, chatted normally until he asked permission to rest. On Wednesday afternoon he video called,” said Marliani Ahmad, as reported by detiksulsel on Monday (9 March 2026).

Marliani had a video call with her husband on Wednesday (4 March). The day after, on Thursday (5 March) morning, Captain Miswar sent a WhatsApp message to his wife informing her that he would depart in the afternoon.

“On Thursday at 9am he still managed to WhatsApp to say goodbye before sailing, he said he would depart in the afternoon and arrive Friday evening God willing,” she said.

Marliani stated that her husband was sailing to retrieve a damaged vessel belonging to a friend. However, Miswar did not inform his wife that the ship to be retrieved was located in the Strait of Hormuz.

“No, he only mentioned that he was going to retrieve a damaged ship,” she said.
