JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan were killed in southern Lebanon, the area of assignment for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), on Monday (30/3/2026).

TNI Chief of Information Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah stated that the incident occurred while the Escort Team of Company B, Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL, which is part of the Sector East Mobile Reserve (SEMR), was escorting a convoy of the Combat Support Service Unit (CSSU).

The escort was to support the journey from the Eastern Sector UNIFIL Headquarters at United Nations Post (UNP) 7-2 to the Task Force Yonmek TNI Konga XXIII-S/UNIFIL Headquarters at UNP 7-1.

“The incident took place amid high escalation of conflict, where an explosion on the vehicle resulted in the deaths of TNI personnel named Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan,” said Aulia, in a press release on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

The incident followed an announcement by the Ministry of Defence and TNI Headquarters of four members who became casualties due to an Israeli attack on Hezbollah, on Sunday (29/3/2026).

Details: one killed and three others injured.

“To determine the cause of the incident, UNIFIL is currently conducting an investigation. TNI is also continuously monitoring developments in the situation and preparing contingency measures in the face of dynamics in the Lebanon mission area,” he emphasised.

Previously reported, eight Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel became casualties in southern Lebanon, based on the latest data from the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Defence, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

“On 29 March 2026, one TNI personnel was killed and several others sustained injuries due to the impact of the conflict in the operational area,” said Rico, in a press release received by Kompas.com, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

“In that incident (on 30 March 2025), two TNI personnel were reported killed, while two others sustained serious injuries,” he added.

Rico assured that the personnel who were injured are currently receiving intensive medical treatment in Beirut.

To date, the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated by UNIFIL according to the applicable mechanisms.
