Capital market conference opens
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto will open a two-day capital market conference and exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center here today.
The conference, titled "Indonesian Capital Market: A Commitment to Progress", will be held from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency (Bapepam).
About 1,600 participants, including 400 foreign fund managers. will join the conference.
Minister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad, chairman of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency I Putu Gede Ary Suta, Bank Indonesia Governor Soedradjad Djiwandono and Director General of State Enterprises Bacelius Ruru will address the conference.
Other speakers include executive chairman of the Pacific Rim Forum Alan Carroll, chairman of Astra International Mohammad "Bob" Hasan and chairman of Freeport McMoran James R. Moffett.
The conference will also discuss capital market activities in Indonesia and the United States and the role of pension funds and insurance companies in the capital markets.
At least 100 companies and institutions will take part in the capital market exhibition. They include publicly listed companies, securities houses and information technology companies. (aly)
