Capital Market Anniversary Fails to Lift IHSG; Index Slips 0.60% After Morning Rally
The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) had to end trading on Monday, 10 August 2026, in the red. This was in stark contrast to the opening session, which had briefly turned green to coincide with the 49th anniversary of the reactivation of Indonesia’s capital market and the launch of a gold Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).
Based on trading data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the JCI closed at 6,371.15, down 38.50 points or 0.60 percent compared with the previous close of 6,409.65.
At the start of trading, the JCI had opened stronger at 6,440.60, up around 0.48 percent. The index even touched an intraday high of 6,462.74 during the morning session.
However, the gains did not hold until the end of trading. Selling pressure pushed the JCI into reverse, and it slid deeper into negative territory.
The JCI’s movement throughout the day showed considerable volatility.
From the trading chart, the JCI was in the 6,460 area in the morning. After that, the index began to lose momentum and fell through the 6,400 level towards midday.
The JCI then recorded an intraday low of 6,362.76 before staging a recovery in the afternoon session. However, those gains were erased again ahead of the close.
At around 15.50 Western Indonesia Time, the JCI stood at 6,371.11 and eventually closed at around 6,371.15.
The movement suggests that the positive sentiment at the open was not strong enough to sustain the JCI throughout the trading session.
For comparison, at the close of the first session the JCI was at 6,378.40, down 31.25 points or 0.49 percent. This means pressure on the index continued until trading ended.
Share trading today was fairly active. Based on IDX data, the value of share transactions reached around Rp16.44 trillion, with trading volume of around 36.88 billion shares.
Transaction frequency was recorded at around 2.19 million times.
In terms of share movements, a number of large-capitalisation stocks still managed to post gains. However, those gains were not enough to lift the JCI overall.
Several stocks that recorded gains included:
DSSA closed at Rp975, up 5 points.
TPIA closed at Rp2,230, up 100 points.
BBRI closed at Rp3,130, up 90 points.
