Jakarta (ANTARA) - Capital A Berhad (Capital A) has officially appointed Effendy Shahul Hamid as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective from 6 April 2026, as a step to strengthen the company’s leadership ranks in line with Capital A’s efforts to enter the next growth phase.

“Effendy has a proven track record. He understands how ecosystems can create value, while also being able to unite teams with clear goals and deliver tangible results,” said Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“At present, we want to move faster and further across all business lines with the support of digital innovation, and Effendy brings the perspective and depth of experience that we need. I am confident that he can start immediately and deliver value,” he added.

Following the divestment of the aviation business to AirAsia X Berhad (AirAsia X) in January 2026, Capital A is now focusing on developing and expanding its core business portfolio.

Tony added that Effendy’s presence is expected to strengthen the company’s capacity, particularly in strategic decision-making and ecosystem orchestration.

At the same time, Effendy will also ensure strong and sustainable execution across all Capital A business lines, in line with the company’s regional expansion ambitions.

“I also look forward to returning to the learning phase, working closely with the CEOs across all Capital A and AirAsia X entities to create and maximise existing business potential,” said Effendy.

Effendy brings more than two decades of regional-level leadership experience, covering the banking sector, digital transformation, strategic partnerships, and ecosystem building.

During his 21 years at CIMB Group, he led the regional retail franchise, directed the digital banking agenda, and initiated various strategic partnerships and investments, including the transformation of Touch ’n Go into one of the leading digital payment platforms through collaboration with Ant Group.

He began his career in corporate development and investment banking, focusing on mergers, acquisitions, and business expansion.
