Capacity Building for Women-Owned MSMEs Directed at Improving Insurance Literacy
Strengthening the capacity of women micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs is now being directed at improving understanding of the importance of insurance protection. This step is part of efforts to strengthen financial literacy and inclusion, particularly through understanding the importance of insurance protection in facing various risks that can affect business continuity and financial conditions.
To realise this, PT BRI Asuransi Indonesia (BRI Insurance) has collaborated with PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to organise an Insurance Literacy Programme for women MSME entrepreneurs in Banyuwangi, East Java. The activity was held as an interactive educational space on the importance of business risk mitigation.
Taking place at éL Hotel Banyuwangi, the activity was attended by PNM Mekaar customers who are MSME entrepreneurs. The programme served as a platform for participants to understand the role of insurance as a form of protection and the importance of preparing for risks that can affect business continuity and financial conditions.
Through its Mekaar programme, PNM has reached millions of women ultra-micro business customers across Indonesia, who serve as one of the drivers of the national economy. With such a large number, the need for understanding risk management and insurance protection has become increasingly relevant.
For MSME entrepreneurs, the ability to manage risk is one of the important aspects in maintaining business continuity. Various risks that arise unexpectedly can impact business activities and family financial conditions. Therefore, understanding insurance protection is expected to become part of the knowledge that supports business actors in making more planned decisions.
Through this programme, participants received education on the benefits and functions of insurance protection as part of risk management. This knowledge is expected to help MSME entrepreneurs recognise the importance of protection according to their needs, while increasing awareness to prepare for various possible risks in running business activities.
“We express our appreciation and gratitude to BRI Insurance for collaborating with PNM in providing insurance financial literacy and inclusion to PNM customers in Banyuwangi,” said Sugiyati Nurul Handayani, Branch Manager of PNM Banyuwangi.
The collaboration carried out by BRI Insurance is one of the steps to bring insurance education closer to the public, particularly those running businesses. This synergy also provides space for MSME entrepreneurs to obtain information about financial protection directly, so that insurance financial literacy and inclusion can become more relevant to their needs in carrying out economic activities.
Adit Sulistiyo, Head of MRO Jember, was also present and gave a speech to the participants. “This education is an added value for MSME entrepreneurs, because here BRI Insurance will help provide understanding of the importance of protection in facing risks, so that it is expected to support the public in running businesses with greater readiness and planning,” said Adit Sulistiyo.
For BRI Insurance, the implementation of the Insurance Financial Literacy and Inclusion Programme is part of the company’s commitment to contributing to improving education in the community. Direct education to MSME entrepreneurs is expected to broaden understanding of the benefits of insurance while encouraging the public to better recognise the importance of protection as part of risk management.
Improving insurance literacy is also expected to help the public make better financial considerations according to their respective needs and capabilities. For MSME entrepreneurs, this understanding can serve as a foundation in preparing for business continuity while facing unexpected conditions.
President Director of BRI Insurance, Budi Legowo, emphasised the importance of this training so that women MSME entrepreneurs become wiser in managing business risks.
“This activity in Banyuwangi is expected to provide benefits for participants in understanding the importance of insurance protection as part of financial planning and business management. Hopefully the knowledge gained can also serve as a foundation for women MSME entrepreneurs to be wiser in considering protection needs according to their respective business and financial conditions,” said Budi.
