Canonical announces sudden closure of Ubuntu Pastebin by May 2026
Canonical has announced it will shut down the ‘Ubuntu Pastebin’ text-sharing service by the end of May 2026.
According to the explanation, the service, which has been used by users to share system logs, configurations, and code snippets, is being discontinued as part of the company’s infrastructure modernisation project.
The internal team is currently undertaking a comprehensive infrastructure migration and modernisation project.
Ubuntu Pastebin has long been a popular service among Ubuntu users for quickly sharing terminal outputs, bug reports, and system configurations via special links.
However, Canonical has not provided detailed technical reasons for the service shutdown.
The company also urged users to immediately move or update links pointing to Ubuntu Pastebin, as all content will become inaccessible once the servers are shut down at the end of this month.
The decision has drawn reactions from the Ubuntu community, with several users on official forums expressing disappointment over Canonical providing less than 10 days’ notice before the service is fully closed.
As alternatives, community members are recommending services such as dpaste, paste.debian.net, and termbin.com for sharing logs and text via Linux terminals.
The closure of Ubuntu Pastebin adds to a list of older Ubuntu services discontinued by Canonical in recent years.
Previously, Canonical also shut down the Ubuntu One cloud storage service in 2014 to focus investment on Ubuntu OS development.
