The names of three actresses and five directors who are to
join US movie-maker David Lynch in judging next month's Cannes
Film Festival were unveiled Wednesday.
Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone, Malaysian-born Hong Kong
actress Michelle Yeoh of James Bond fame and Indonesian actress
Christine Hakim will all be on the jury of the May 15-26 event,
festival organizers said in a statement.
The five directors, all men, are: Bill August of Denmark,
Claude Miller and Regis Wargnier of France, Raoul Ruiz a Chilean-
born French citizen, and Walter Salles of Brazil.
Lynch, the maker of Mulholland Drive and long-time favorite at
Cannes, was in January named jury president of the prestigious
festival on the French Riviera.
His presence, and those of Stone and Yeoh, add a touch of
glamour to the panel, whose job is to attribute the Palme d'Or
and lesser prizes to the films listed in the official competition
of the festival.
Those movies selected are to be announced next week in Paris.
The Cannes Film Festival is the world's premiere showcase for
international film and often the launching pad for several
features that go on to big success in the box office and at the
following year's Oscars in the United States.
