Cannabis field found in Sulawesi

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Pinrang police found a one- hectare cannabis field in Kalempang, Massiwale, and have arrested two men suspected of owning the field, South Sulawesi police chief Brig. Gen. Ali Hanafiah said here yesterday.

He said the police forensic laboratory in Ujungpandang is investigating whether the plant belongs to the banned kind of cannabis.

Pinrang police chief Lt. Col. Suparno said police found the cannabis field after they were tipped off by a local resident.

He said the one- to two-meter high cannabis plants are three months old and are ready for harvest.

"They are grown inside a four-hectare cornfield," he added. (mds)
