Candies replace small change
Candies replace small change
From Merdeka
It seems that Rp 25 has no value nowadays. If it has, its the
price of a small candy, as we frequently discover at supermarkets
in Jakarta. Supermarkets use candies to replace small change owed
to customers. Sometimes we are given two candies for change of Rp
50.
In the countryside, however, we still can buy a piece of soya-
cake or a nice piece of cake for Rp 25.
In one day, hundreds of people may receive change in the form
of candy from cashiers, which makes the total amount really
significant. In one month the amount would be even bigger.
Unfortunately, we are always told that sucking candy can harm our
teeth.
Why don't they give us vouchers instead of candies? The
vouchers could later (when we have enough of them) be changed for
goods of equivalent value.
