Cancellation of PDI meeting
Cancellation of PDI meeting
SURABAYA, East Java: Chairman of the provincial chapter of the
Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) Sucipto charged that the
governor canceled a planned congress of local party leaders last
week simply because the official did not like him.
Sucipto said that governor Basofi Sudirman did not want to see
him lead the local chapter.
"The governor may be offended by the way I criticized some of
his policies in the past and he doesn't want to see me head the
local PDI chapter," he said as quoted by Antara.
The PDI's top spots in East Java have been claimed by Sucipto
and Latief Pudjosakti, who has the government's favor. The
chairmanship rift continues as the government recognizes neither
Sucipto or Latief.
The PDI headquarters in Jakarta will apply for another permit
allowing the local party leaders to meet in a new congress. (rms)
