Canadian PM in Manila

MANILA (AFP): Canada's Prime Minister Jean Chretian arrived here yesterday at the head of a delegation of government and business leaders to promote business ties, the Canadian embassy here said.

The three-day official visit by Chretien, part of an Asian swing, will feature a meeting later yesterday with Philippine President Fidel Ramos and the signing of a bilateral air services agreement.

Chretien will address two groups of businessmen today, and hold talks with the president of the Manila-based Asian Development Bank and the speaker of the House of Representatives. Chretien will also meet Ramos' predecessor, Corazon Aquino before his delegation leaves for Bangkok tomorrow, the presidential palace said.

The Canadian delegation includes the premiers of the country's 10 provinces and over 300 businessmen.
