Canada's Paul wins Super Car rally
JAKARTA (JP): Robert Paul of Canada racing under the banner of the GT Radial team won the Super Car rally at Sentul, near Bogor Sunday.
Paul, driving a BMW M3, won the two-day race clocking 19 minutes 36.299 seconds on Saturday and recorded the same time on Sunday.
With the victory, Paul now leads the rankings with 67 points. Indra Saksono is second with 65 points and Anthony Walker third with 46 points.
Saturday and Sunday's Super Car race was the third and fourth series of the seven-event competition.
Paul, a consultant based in Jakarta who won the 1997 national drag race, won the national Super Car race in 1995 and came third last year.
"From the start, I maintained my pace, not giving any chances to the other rivals to get close to me. I succeeded and won the race," Paul said.
Paul is the only driver in the GT Radial team. He will compete for the team in the last round of the Super Car race, also at Sentul, in December.
The Group N-1 race was won by Tono K. Santana of the Godam Perkasa team with a time of 25:11.028. Aditya took second place and Ninik Soetrisno third.
Marshal Yahya from the Sigma Speed team won the Group N-2 race clocking 23:53.949. Female driver Rally Narina of the Toyota Indonesia team finished second and Arsa Widitiarsa of the Sigma Speed team came in third.
Arya won the European Car Class A race with a time of 23:27.779 while Kosi won the Class B in a time of 23:32.547.
In the Formula Asia race, Haridharma Manoppo of the Gudang Garam Humpuss team won the fourth round in a time of 23:47.431. Second place went to Dimas while Stanley Iriawan took third.
Haridharma, a high school student, said that he wants to move to Formula III, but added that, "of course this depends if I get a sponsor." (lnt)
