Canada announces increase in direct flights with China

Ottawa (ANTARA) - The Canadian government on Monday (20/4) announced a gradual increase in the number of direct flights between Canada and China, a step aimed at enhancing trade diversification and strengthening bilateral economic relations.

According to a press release from Transport Canada, under the new arrangement, Canadian and Chinese airlines are now permitted to gradually increase direct passenger-combination flights.

Subsequently, operating up to 20 dedicated cargo flights per week and obtaining reciprocal access to all destinations in each respective country.

“Increasing passenger and cargo flights with China is a very positive step towards achieving our trade diversification goals, while also strengthening our longstanding people-to-people ties,” said Canadian Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon.

Meanwhile, Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu stated that expanding direct air connections with China can strengthen the trade corridor relied upon by Canadian exporters to reach global markets every day.

Furthermore, advancing Canada’s target to increase exports to China by 50 percent, while contributing to Canada’s long-term domestic economic growth.
