Ottawa (ANTARA) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday (10/9), where both parties announced a new agreement to expand the joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and deepen defence and security cooperation.

Under the agreement, Canada and Ukraine will collaborate on the development and production of drones, including the supply of critical minerals and metals, as well as related engineering and manufacturing.

Canada will also establish a digital drone market modelled on Ukraine’s ‘Brave1’ system and plans to increase its military drone fleet tenfold.

Canada also announced new aid for Ukraine, including approximately 350 million Canadian dollars (1 Canadian dollar = Rp12,699) for air defence interceptors and more than 640 million Canadian dollars for the repair and reconstruction of energy infrastructure, according to a press release from the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office.

The Canadian Prime Minister and the Ukrainian President signed a declaration regarding a 100-year partnership and the enhancement of defence and security cooperation.

Since 2022, Canada’s total aid commitment to Ukraine has exceeded 26 billion Canadian dollars, according to the statement.
