Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Harris Turino, a member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDIP Faction, shared financial tips for young people during the Lampung Financial Festival 2026 on Saturday (5/9/2026).

Harris suggested that young people should set aside 20% of their pocket money, or approximately Rp 300,000 per month, for savings or investment. One of the suggested investment methods is through stocks.

“You can invest just Rp 300,000 every month—just three hundred thousand—buy stocks and hold, buy again next month and hold, buy again the following month and hold. I guarantee that by the age of forty, your wealth will be comparable to Mr CT’s,” he explained, to an enthusiastic response.

“By age 40, which is 20 years from now, your wealth will certainly be much larger than what I am saying now. This is what the OJK (Financial Services Authority) says,” he added.

However, he cautioned that when investing in stocks, one must understand the background of the chosen company. He suggested that young people could use Google to research the profiles of the target companies.

“Do not buy stocks that are ‘angel-angel’ (obscure), where we do not understand the business,” he said.

He also advised beginner investors to look for LQ45 stocks. In his view, stocks within the LQ45 index have been well-curated based on company performance.

On this occasion, he advised young investors not to be enticed by high interest rates or massive returns. High interest and high profits carry the risk of falling into the category of ‘fake investments’ (investasi bodong).

“Do not agree to invest in places that offer high interest; do not do that, as it could be a scam,” he stated.

Regarding cryptocurrency investment, Harris reminded beginner investors to fully understand the characteristics of crypto before entering the market. He assessed that stock investment is a safer option for young people.

“We often see the trend of cryptocurrency investment where we do not understand crypto at all, yet we follow along and buy. Such investments are guaranteed—guaranteed to result in losses,” he said.
