Campus paper editor sacked

SEMARANG: Diponegoro University rector Muladi has discharged
Darmanto Jatman from his position as chief editor of the
university's monthly newspaper, Manunggal.

"I dismissed Darmanto Jatman because I assigned him to a new
post as head of the psychology study program," Muladi told
reporters on Tuesday.

However, Yudi Wijanarko, one of the paper's editors, said he
believes the reason behind the action was the newspaper's
critical reports about the rector's policies.

In its latest edition, the paper criticized the rector for
banning leaders of three political organizations from addressing
a seminar on campus. (har/31)
