Campus League 2026: Jakarta Regional Basketball Teams Set to Showcase Talent
Campus League Basketball Season 1 moves to the Jakarta regional stage after completing the Bandung regional on Friday, 22 May 2026. The Jakarta regional will be the fifth and final zone before progressing to the pinnacle phase, The Nationals. The Jakarta regional will run from 24 to 31 May 2026 at the University of Pelita Harapan (UPH) in Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten. Sixteen universities will compete in Jakarta, including one from outside Java: the University of Riau in Pekanbaru.
The Jakarta regional is the second zone in Campus League Season 1 after Surabaya, which reached its quota of 16 men’s teams divided equally into four groups and eight women’s teams split into two balanced groups.
This is unsurprising given Jakarta’s higher standard compared to other regions. “In terms of development, Jakarta’s level has surpassed other cities in Indonesia,” said Muhammad Tirta Dunda, a player from Sultan Agung Tirtayasa University of Banten (Untirta), after attending a Technical Meeting at UPH on Monday, 18 May.
Untirta will join Group B Men alongside Jakarta’s Darma Persada University, Trisakti University, and Budi Luhur University. “Campus League will be a great start for Jakarta’s university teams like us. We will prove that Untirta exists and thrives,” Tirta said.
Traditionally, the Jakarta regional features top teams that consistently reach finals or win titles. Two well-known universities in the capital’s student basketball scene are Perbanas Institute Jakarta and UPH.
However, a top status is irrelevant if not proven on the court. To achieve this, teams must have confidence, as stated by UPH Team Manager Dhea Simanjuntak. “Players must trust each other, the coaches, and the programmes they’ve followed. The most important thing is focusing on the goal (competing),” she said.
The intense competition in Jakarta follows the high tension from the previous Bandung regional. In Bandung, Maranatha Christian University’s men’s and women’s teams, nicknamed The Ice Bears, secured both titles at Campus League 2026 – Basketball Regional Bandung Season 1.
The women’s team of Maranatha confidently claimed the title after defeating Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) 78-62 in the final held at UPI’s Gymnasium Building on Friday, 22 May. The men’s team also secured victory against Institute of Technology Harapan Bangsa (ITHB) with a convincing 66-54 score, ensuring both teams a spot in The Nationals.
Following the regional finals, Campus League 2026 – Basketball Regional Bandung Season 1 witnessed a collaboration between Campus League and the Indonesian Education University (UPI). The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for sports was signed by Campus League CEO Ryan Gozali, along with Pupung Purnawarman, Director of the Directorate of Partnerships and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Komarudin, Dean of the Faculty of Sports, Health and Education (FPOK), and Dr. Dody Mohamad Kholid, Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design Education (FPSD).
The partnership aims to build a long-term sports ecosystem and develop student character. “Campus League has long-term plans for student sports development. We need to collaborate with universities that will serve as venues for various sports competitions under the Campus League banner. We’re grateful for UPI’s positive response,” said Ryan.
Pupung Purnawarman echoed this, welcoming the strategic partnership with Campus League, which offers significant opportunities to train students involved in organising the 2026 Basketball Regional Bandung Season 1.
“We are very open to this collaboration as it is a crucial step in implementing the university’s Tridharma mission through sports. Alongside promoting sportsmanship, it fosters a competitive and professional ecosystem among students. We hope this activity continues for the next five years,” Pupung added. The agreement between Campus League and UPI will last for five years.
