Cambodian Vessel Detained by Thai Navy on Suspicion of Illegal Fishing
Bangkok (ANTARA) - A Thai Navy patrol vessel has detained a Cambodian fishing boat engaged in illegal fishing in Thai territorial waters.
“An unflagged vessel without a hull number and with a Cambodian crew was detected by patrol ship T 996 on Sunday, 22 February, whilst conducting illegal fishing,” said Thailand’s First Naval Area Command.
The vessel was detained and inspected before being escorted to a berth at Khlong Yai marina in Trat Province. The crew were then handed over to security authorities to undergo legal proceedings.
The command rejected Cambodia’s claim that the vessel had been seized in Cambodian waters.
Thai Navy data indicated the boat was one nautical mile inside Thai territory from the maritime boundary at the time of detention, based on verified coordinates and timestamps.
