Cambodian foreign minister to visit Indonesia
JAKARTA (JP): Cambodia's Foreign Minister, Ung Huot, will arrive here tomorrow morning to begin a three-day visit to Indonesia.
Indonesian foreign ministry officials yesterday described the visit as a "courtesy call" following his recent appointment to his current position.
Huot's trip is part of a tour to the region and his arrival here tomorrow is preceded by a visit to Brunei.
Apart from having bilateral meetings with Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas, Huot is also scheduled to meet with President Soeharto on Friday.
Indonesia has played a major role as a peace-broker in the recovery of war-torn Cambodia. The discussions on Friday are expected to cover the latest developments there.
Meetings are also planned with Speaker of the House of Representatives Wahono and the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ajit Singh.
ASEAN comprises Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Phnom Penh is known to be keen to take up observer status in the association. (mds)
