Calya Drives Against Traffic on Gunung Sahari, Hits Woman, Car is Attacked by Mob
Panic ensued amidst the heavy traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026), when a Toyota Calya car drove recklessly against the flow of traffic.
In the midst of the chaos, a woman was hit by the vehicle.
“One victim was reported to have suffered injuries. The victim, a woman with the initials (NH), is a resident of Cengkareng, West Jakarta,” said the Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, to reporters at the Tanah Abang Police Station, Wednesday evening.
Based on a video uploaded to the Instagram account @lintasjakartaupdate, the black Toyota Calya was seen speeding while driving against the traffic.
Reynold explained that the car was driven by a man from Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, with the initials HM (25).
There was one female passenger in the car.
The incident began around 17:00 WIB when the police tried to stop the car.
“The car with license plate number D-1640-AHB is suspected of using fake license plates, so it was stopped by two traffic police officers,” said Reynold.
However, HM panicked and fled.
He drove onto Jalan Gunung Sahari and drove against the traffic from south to north on Jalan Bungur Besar.
Upon arriving at the Menara Bidakara Alfa Land (MBAL) intersection, the car continued to drive against the traffic on Jalan Pos.
Then, the vehicle turned around and returned to the MBAL intersection and turned left again in the opposite lane on Jalan Gunung Sahari.
“There, the car was involved in an accident with a motorcycle,” said Reynold.
