Calya Drives Against Traffic on Gunung Sahari, Carrying a Toddler and Two Women While Being Pursued by a Mob
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A black Toyota Calya, driving against traffic and being pursued by a mob on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25 February 2026), was found to be carrying a toddler and two women. This information was revealed by an eyewitness at the scene.
Wawa (53), a resident of RT 10/RW 04, Pasar Baru Village, Central Jakarta, said that when the incident occurred, he was fishing in the Ciliwung River, which runs alongside Jalan Gunung Sahari.
He then heard a commotion accompanied by warning shots, and rushed to the location. There, he saw the black car being pursued by residents.
“There were already many people there, hitting the car. Some were hitting it with bricks, some with helmets, you know. The women were immediately taken out of the car,” Wawa told reporters when met on Jalan Pasar Baru Timur, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (26 February 2026).
“Because it was clear that there were women inside, they were taken out, along with one woman,” he added.
Wawa said that the toddler was crying and screaming when taken out of the car. The child was then carried by a woman wearing a brown hijab towards a police patrol car. The three of them were then secured by two officers and taken away in the patrol car.
At that time, the rear and left side windows of the car were already broken.
“Meanwhile, the driver of the car was unable to do anything, just sitting there,” he said.
“Other police officers then entered the car and secured the driver. Then the black car was secured by other police officers,” Wawa continued.
“In total, there were four passengers. The women, the child, and the driver,” he said.
He also saw the woman wearing the brown hijab shouting that her bag was left in the car. The woman then returned to the car to retrieve her bag before returning to the patrol car.
“The bag she took was the woman’s bag. Then it was immediately taken back to the police car,” Wawa added.
After that, the police took the driver and the three passengers away in separate vehicles.
