Caltex enhances security in mine
PEKANBARU, Riau: U.S.-based mining and oil company PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) has stepped up security in its vast mine compound in the province following a series of bomb hoaxes and Oct. 12 Bali terror bombing.
All cars and vehicles entering the company's offices in Rumbai, Dumai and Minas in the province were required to undergo a thorough security check with help from the local police and military.
The tighter security has caused large lines of cars waiting at the entrance gates of the company's offices.
Caltex spokesman Dwi Pudjosutrisno conceded that the tight security measures were taken because of with the increasing anti- U.S. sentiments in Indonesia, including the Bali bombing.
However, the tight security policy has sparked complaints from locals who said that the security measures were excessive and fueled criticism of Caltex receiving special favors and attention. -- Antara
