Calm Wednesday, Energy Preserved
WFH on Wednesday is not merely an alternative schedule. It serves as a meeting point between the needs for energy efficiency, productivity of civil servants (ASN), and public aspirations.
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The morning rush in Surabaya on Wednesday appeared ordinary. Civil servants (ASN) prepared to embark on their office routines, traffic began to thicken at several strategic points, and the aroma of coffee from roadside stalls greeted pedestrians.
However, the year 2026 brings new dynamics to the work culture in East Java, namely the discourse on implementing Work From Home (WFH) for ASN, not on Friday as in the initial central policy, but in the middle of the week.
This shift is not just a calendar adjustment. From digital research conducted by the Indonesian Communication Scholars Association (ISKI) East Java, the majority of the public rejects WFH on Friday because it could trigger disguised long holidays.
Wednesday emerges as the best option, effectively separating workdays from holiday momentum so that productivity and public services remain maintained. Public conversation trends on social media up to early April 2026 strengthen Wednesday’s position as the dominant choice, with Thursday as the next alternative.
This phenomenon demonstrates the significant role of digital spaces in establishing public policy. Public aspirations filtered through social media now serve as a real indicator of the accountability of apparatus performance.
WFH on Wednesday is not only about work flexibility but also a strategic step to suppress energy consumption, support cost efficiency, and reduce daily mobility pressures.
The implementation of WFH for ASN in East Java targets non-service employees. Employees who directly serve the public, such as in health, education, and population administration, remain in the office. With this mapping, the quality of public services remains optimal.
The Secretary of Lumajang Regency affirmed that WFH does not disrupt services, while the Regent of Malang, through the Inspectorate and the Personnel and Human Resource Development Agency (BKPSDM), oversees the performance of ASN undergoing WFH.
