Callaway launches new driver

JAKARTA: Callaway launched on Thursday the new Great Big Bertha Ti Iron in the Indo Golf Expo 2003 held at the atrium of World Trade Center, Central Jakarta, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3.

"The new product is designed especially for and sold exclusively in Asia," said Warren Lee, sales manager of Callaway's Asian distributors, in a press conference at the expo.

He said that the new product would meet the quality of flight sought by most golfers in Asia. "It should fly straight and true, instead of moon ball flights," he said.

The new products would soon be distributed through all Golf House outlets across the country.--JP

Kerr to defend title in LPGA

LINCOLN, California: Forgive Cristie Kerr if she doesn't feel like she's defending her title.

Kerr won last year's LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge, defeating South Korean Han Hee-won by a stroke for her only career victory. But that event was at Twelve Bridges Golf Club, which has given way to the Lincoln Hills Golf Club after hosting this event in its first seven years.

Kerr, who turns 26 later this month, has had a solid season with six top-10 finishes in 20 events, including a third in last week's Safeway Classic, won by Annika Sorenstam. She also tied for second at the LPGA Takefuji Classic and the Michelob Light Open and is 15th on the money list. --AFP

ROME: Saadi Kadhafi, son of Libyan leader Moamer, has resigned from the board of Juventus, the Italian Serie A club has confirmed.

Saadi's company Lafico (Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company) held a 7.5 per cent stake in the Turin club since October of last year.

His decision to end his involvement with the Italian champions paves the way for his long-awaited league debut. The 30-year-old midfielder signed a professional contract with Juventus' Serie A rivals Perugia in the summer, but has not yet played for the club. --AFP
