Call for peace in Aceh during Ramadhan

BANDA ACEH: The Aceh provincial legislative council called for
the two conflicting sides to stop violence in the restive
province during the Ramadhan fasting month.

"We appeal to both security authorities and the Free Aceh
Separatist Movement (GAM) to stop all forms of violence to allow
all Muslim locals to perform their religious fast during the
fasting month," Zainal Abidin, secretary of the legislative
council's Commission F on religious affairs, said here on
Thursday.

He said all parties should be eager to not only call on the
United States and its allies to stop their strike against Afghan
Muslims, but also to be able to create a conducive situation at
home.

"Blood will continue flowing and the death toll will continue
rising in the province unless the violence is stopped and the
prolonged conflict resolved," he said. --Antara
