California reiterates zero tolerance for terror acts following mosque shooting at San Diego's Islamic Center
Istanbul (ANTARA) - California Governor Gavin Newsom said he would not tolerate acts of terror against religious communities after five people, including two suspected gunmen, were killed in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. In a statement on Monday (May 18), Newsom said he was shocked by the violent attack at the Islamic Center, where families and children gather, and neighbours worship in peace and solidarity. ‘Today, this community space is shattered by gunfire. California extends deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by today’s shooting,’ Newsom said. ‘Worshippers anywhere should not have to fear for their lives. Hatred has no place in California, and we will not tolerate acts of terror or intimidation against religious communities,’ he added. ‘To the Muslim community of San Diego: California stands with you,’ he said again. Authorities said that three people, including a security officer, were shot dead at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday. Law enforcement officials also stated that the two suspects died from gunshot wounds they inflicted on themselves.
