Calculation by the Ministry of Religious Affairs Team: Eid al-Adha 1447 H to Fall on 27 May 2026

According to Cecep Nurwendaya, a member of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hisab Rukyat Team, “Throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, the criteria for the early month of Qomariah in MABIMS have been met. Based on calculations, the green map indicates that the criteria for 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah will fall on Monday Kliwon, 18 May 2026,” he said during a seminar held to initiate the isbat session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Central Jakarta, Sunday (17/5/2026).

Cecep explained that throughout Indonesia, the position of the new moon has met the criteria for minimum lunar altitude. The elongation of the new moon in Indonesian territory also meets the criteria.

“Based on the MABIMS criteria, on 29 Zulqa’dah 1447 H / 17 May 2026, the position of the new moon throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia has met the minimum lunar altitude criterion of 3 degrees and the minimum elongation of 6.4 degrees, so that according to calculations, 1 Zulhijjah 1447 H will coincide with Monday Kliwon, 18 May 2026,” he said.

“Therefore, the position of the new moon at the beginning of Zulhijjah 1447 H on this day of observation is theoretically very likely to be observed,” he added.

The determination of the beginning of Zulhijjah is carried out by integrating the method of hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyat (lunar observation). These two approaches complement each other in producing a comprehensive decision.

The series of isbat sessions will begin with a seminar on the position of the new moon, which presents astronomical data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Hisab Rukyat Team. After that, the committee will receive reports on the results of lunar observations from various observation locations, from western to eastern Indonesia.

The implementation of the isbat session is scheduled to be held at 18:00 WIB. This will be followed by a press conference to determine 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah at 19:00 WIB. (ial/idn)
