Cakung Truck Congestion Blamed on Suboptimal Depot Operations

The Jakarta Utara Transportation Agency (Sudinhub) has stated that the container truck congestion on the Cakung-Cilincing route is caused by the suboptimal operations of depots in the area. “We see this happening in the Cakung area, East Jakarta, and it has an impact on the North Jakarta area,” said Sudinhub Head Rudy Saptari Sulesuryana after attending a Depot Coordination Meeting at the North Jakarta Metro Police on Wednesday. In response to the issue, the agency held a Coordination Meeting on Loading and Unloading Management at Container Depots at the North Jakarta Metro Police, together with the North Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit, the Tanjung Priok Port Police Traffic Unit, trucking companies, and other stakeholders. “We are mitigating what is happening, the problems in Cakung, so they do not occur in North Jakarta,” Rudy stated. He added that a second measure being prepared is a Buffer Zone, or a staging area for logistics truck parking or waiting zones before they are permitted to enter the port area. “This Buffer Zone aims to prevent vehicle queues from forming on highways or public roads,” Rudy explained. Rudy detailed that the number of logistics truck depots in North Jakarta exceeds 31 units spread across the region. He noted that these container trucks serve export and import activities, transporting containers from Tanjung Priok Port to depots located outside the port area. Additionally, trucks queue to pick up containers from the depots for delivery into the port. “It is during this process that congestion frequently occurs, namely the queues into the depots, and that is what we are trying to mitigate together,” Rudy concluded.
