Cakung Congestion Caused by Imbalanced Port Logistics Flow

The head of the North Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub), Rudy Saptari Sulesuryana, has stated that traffic congestion on Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing (Cacing) is triggered by an imbalance in the logistics flow at the Tanjung Priok Port area. “The high volume of imports, which is not matched by export activity, causes a build-up of containers in the Tanjung Priok Port area and depots,” Rudy Saptari said in Jakarta on Friday. He assessed that this condition has subsequently led to increased long queues of lorries on the main roads. In response to this issue, the North Jakarta Sudinhub is directing lorry drivers to wait at the Tanah Merdeka Terminal if there is a long queue heading to the depot. This is done so that the road can still be used by other vehicles. “So the highway is not blocked by the lorry queue,” he said. Meanwhile, the Head of the Traffic Control and Operations and Road Transport Section of the North Jakarta Sudinhub, Yulza Romadhoni Putra, said a total of 30 personnel have been deployed to manage traffic flow at several points prone to congestion. “Over the last two days, we have carried out traffic engineering and the results have been quite positive for the smooth flow of vehicles,” he said. According to him, based on monitoring results at the KBN Cakung turnaround on Thursday (23/7), the traffic flow heading north was observed to be smooth. Meanwhile, the flow of vehicles from Kebon Baru heading south in the Babek area experienced some congestion. He confirmed that traffic management in the KBN Cakung area is carried out dynamically by adjusting to real-time conditions on the ground. He ensured that vehicle flow can move optimally by maximising the use of available road space. “We urge road users to comply with the directions of officers for the sake of smooth traffic for all,” he said.
