Cakung Congestion Caused by Imbalanced Port Logistics Flow

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Head of the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-department (Kasudin), Rudy Saptari Sulesuryana, stated that traffic congestion on Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing (Cacing) is triggered by an imbalance in logistics flows in the Tanjung Priok Port area, North Jakarta.

“The high volume of imports, which is not matched by export activity, has caused containers to pile up in the Tanjung Priok Port area as well as at depots,” said Rudy Saptari in Jakarta on Friday.

He assessed that this condition has consequently led to long queues of trucks along the main road.

In response to the issue, the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-department has directed truck drivers to wait at the Tanah Merdeka Terminal whenever long queues form heading towards the depot. This is done so that the roadway remains passable for other vehicles.

“This way, the main road is not blocked by queues of trucks,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Traffic and Road Transport Control and Operations Section at the North Jakarta Transportation Sub-department, Yulza Romadhoni Putra, said a total of 30 personnel have been deployed to manage traffic flows at a number of points prone to congestion.

“Over the past two days we have carried out traffic engineering, and the results have been quite positive for vehicle flow,” he said.

According to him, based on monitoring at the KBN Cakung junction on Thursday (23/7), traffic heading north was observed to be flowing smoothly.

Meanwhile, vehicle flow from Kebon Baru heading south in the Babek area experienced some congestion.

He ensured that traffic management in the KBN Cakung area is carried out dynamically, adjusting to on-the-ground conditions in real time.

He confirmed that vehicle flows can move optimally by maximising the use of the available road sections.

“We urge road users to follow officers’ instructions for the sake of smooth traffic for everyone,” he said.
