Jakarta - Cakung District has become the area with the largest land coverage in the simultaneous planting movement organised by the East Jakarta City Government together with the Sub-District Office of Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP) and PT Panah Merah.

“From the total land area of 4.7 hectares planted across East Jakarta, 40,988 square metres are in Cakung District with a total of 24 locations and 96,920 plant seeds,” said the Head of the Sub-District Office of Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture (Sudin KPKP) for East Jakarta, Taufik Yulianto, during the simultaneous corn and vegetable planting movement at the Baliku Lestari Farmer Group (Poktan), Ujung Menteng Ward, Cakung, East Jakarta, on Friday.

According to him, the Cakung area has great potential for urban agriculture development because there is still available productive land that can be utilised by farmer groups and the community.

“The greatest potential is indeed in Cakung. Therefore, the centre of activities or OTS is also centred at Poktan Bali Lestariku, Ujung Menteng,” Taufik stated.

In the movement, agricultural land in Cakung was planted with various commodities such as rice, corn, and vegetables. Specifically, for rice planted over four hectares, it is estimated to produce around 20 tonnes.

In addition, thousands of Bonanza MB F1 sweet corn seeds supported by PT East West Seed Indonesia were also planted at several points. These superior seeds are hoped to increase community agricultural productivity.

This simultaneous planting movement involves all districts in East Jakarta. Besides Cakung, areas with a considerable number of locations include Duren Sawit with 23 locations (4,035 seeds), Cipayung with 23 locations (3,392 seeds), Kramat Jati with 16 locations (725 seeds), and Matraman with 15 locations (310 seeds).

Then, Ciracas with 15 locations (2,446 seeds), Pasar Rebo with 15 locations (2,350 seeds), Makasar with 13 locations (1,329 seeds), Jatinegara with 11 locations (1,287 seeds), and Pulogadung with 5 locations (250 seeds).

Taufik hopes that the programme can increase community participation in utilising vacant land while maintaining the stability of local food supplies in urban areas.

The East Jakarta City Government, together with the Sub-District Office of KPKP and PT Panah Merah, held the simultaneous planting movement at 162 locations spread across 10 districts.

This activity serves as a concrete step to strengthen urban food security while encouraging the community to be more active in utilising productive land.

The total land planted in the movement reaches 4.7 hectares or approximately 47,277 square metres. The planting activities were carried out simultaneously, ranging from rice, corn, to various types of vegetables.
