Cake bazaar held to greet Ramadhan

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The city administration has erected 135 semi-permanent stalls for traders to sell various traditional cakes as breaking of the fast snacks.

Opened yesterday to coincide with the start of the Ramadhan fasting month, the cake fair will feature delicacies with exotic names such as wadai Pacah di ilat (cakes which crumble at the tip of one's tongue) and bingka kentang (rice flour and potato cakes).

Head of the local tourism office, H.M. Mugeni, told Antara that the organizers have also provided space for vendors of other kinds of food.

The bazaar is expected to cater to not only local Moslems who wish to buy food for their pre-dawn meal or breaking of the fast meal, but also visiting tourists, Mugeni said. (31)
