Cak Nur's health improving: Aide
JAKARTA: Muslim scholar Nurcholish Madjid's health is reportedly improving, although doctors are not letting him receive visitors.
Widjajanto, spokesman for Nurcholish, who is better known as Cak Nur, quoted doctors at the National University Hospital in Singapore as saying that his transplanted liver was working well, although they detected an infection in his abdomen.
"We were told by the doctors that he was improving," Widjajanto said.
The scholar received a liver transplant at the Tai Ping Hospital in Guangzhou, China, on Aug. 19, and was moved to Singapore for recovery treatment.
A number of national figures have visited him since then, including President Megawati Soekarnoputri's husband Taufik Kiemas, former president Abdurrahman Wahid and presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. -- JP
