Cak Imin Urges Returning Migrant Workers to Spend Money in Their Hometowns
Jakarta — The Chairman of the Awakening of Nations Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, is urging returning migrant workers to spend money earned during their work in Jakarta in their respective hometowns during the Eid celebration period.
According to Cak Imin, the tradition of mudik (returning to one’s hometown) possesses not only social and cultural value, but also plays a role in driving the economy in regional areas.
“Indonesia’s cultural tradition of returning to one’s village, of mudik, beyond having cultural value, definitely has an economic impact,” said Muhaimin following a PKB free mudik (homecoming) programme event at the PKB Party Central Office in Central Jakarta on Sunday (15 March 2026).
“Spend the money you have earned whilst in Jakarta—if you can, spend as much as possible in your village so that money circulation in your hometown becomes beneficial,” he said.
Cak Imin, who also serves as the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, stated that the government is also working to encourage economic circulation in regional areas by providing various free mudik programmes.
“For this reason, the government itself is also preparing free homecoming journeys—by land, sea, and transporting motorcycles,” he said.
“All of this is part of an effort to ensure that all citizens with money spend their funds in their hometowns. The government is investing considerable sums to enable this collective mudik to become a widespread activity as an economic activity in each person’s respective village,” Muhaimin explained.
