Jakarta – Muhaimin Iskandar, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment and PKB party chairman, has called upon all parties to undertake electricity conservation as part of broader efforts to reduce energy consumption.

According to Muhaimin, energy efficiency is crucial to ensure that fuel usage does not become excessive, particularly amid the potential for rising global energy prices.

“Save electricity – this applies to the DPP as well, don’t forget. Reduce lights, reduce air-conditioning, all efficiency measures so that fuel consumption is not excessive,” said Muhaimin following a free mudik (homecoming) event at PKB party headquarters in central Jakarta on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

“Don’t pretend to use air-conditioning in offices – that’s all imported fuel,” he added.

Muhaimin further noted that high energy consumption risks enlarging the government’s subsidy burden, which ultimately affects the national budget.

“The subsidies will continue to balloon, and our state budget will also balloon,” said Muhaimin.

As minister, Cak Imin proposed that civil servants work from home to prevent excessive fuel consumption, a commodity that will become increasingly scarce should the Iran conflict not soon end.

“For example, this is being studied to prevent congestion. Jakarta traffic jams waste fuel, yet fuel supplies may become limited – if the war does not end soon, prices will rise,” he said.
