Jakarta – The Chairman of the National Sharia Council of PKB PMII, who is also the Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, stated that the current PBNU regime must not be continued.

He made this statement during the halal bihalal event of the Central Board (PB) of the Indonesian Muslim Students’ Movement Alumni Association (IKA PMII) in central Jakarta on Sunday evening, 19 April 2026.

Cak Imin initially recounted that he often discusses matters related to NU with various parties. From those discussions, Cak Imin concluded that the current PBNU regime must no longer be continued.

“The conclusion is the same: the current regime must not be continued. It must not be continued,” said Cak Imin in his speech.

He stated that the General Chairman of PBNU, currently held by Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya, has failed and can no longer be a source of hope for the Nahdliyyin community.

“Why? We can no longer entrust our hopes to him. Especially the current General Chairman of PBNU, in my view, has already failed,” he said.

Cak Imin admitted that he was actually reluctant to discuss the matter and felt tired of conflicts.

However, he felt compelled to speak out because he saw that no other figures were brave enough to voice the same concerns.

“I am actually reluctant to say this, but I see that no one is speaking about it. I am already tired of saying things like this, actually. But since there are many alumni here, I am forced to speak, representing everyone who does not want to speak,” he explained.

Cak Imin clarified that his criticism was purely based on deep concern and worry for the condition of the Nahdliyyin ummah.

He reminded them of the essence and intention of the IKA PMII movement, where the closest goal of the struggle is Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

“The impact on our professions and jobs, yes, but the impact on improving the Nahdliyyin ummah and Nahdliyat is the most essential. Why am I saying this? Because IKA PMII is closest to Nahdlatul Ulama,” he concluded.
