JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar has assured that the government will implement the Domestic Workers Protection Law (UU PPRT), which was recently passed by the DPR.

Cak Imin, as he is affectionately known, also stated that the government will create derivative regulations from the UU PPRT to ensure the implementation of that regulation.

“Yes, if it’s already a law, it will be implemented, and if necessary to make regulations, the government will prepare and complete them,” said Cak Imin at the DPP PKB office in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/5/2026).

One of them concerns the ability of employers to meet the provisions stipulated.

“Yes, the solution is that there must be an employment relationship agreed upon by both parties,” said Cak Imin.

Apart from that, he assessed that the passage of the UU PPRT is a new era of more equal and humane employment relations after a long struggle over decades.

“I welcome it well, and we all are grateful after decades of struggle to realise this law, it has finally been approved,” he said.

The Domestic Workers Protection Bill was passed into law by the DPR in a plenary session on Tuesday morning.

The Chairman of the DPR Legislation Body, Bob Hasan, conveyed that the Domestic Workers Protection Bill contains several new regulations covering rights, recruitment mechanisms, to social security guarantees for domestic workers.

“The Domestic Workers Protection Bill was agreed upon in the Working Group meeting, which overall consists of 12 chapters and contains 37 articles in a structured manner, from general provisions to closing provisions,” said Bob Hasan in a working meeting on Monday night (20/4/2026).

The UU PPRT also regulates that domestic worker placement companies must not deduct domestic workers’ wages.

Regarding the prevention of violence against domestic workers, the UU PPRT stipulates that Neighbourhood Associations (RT) and Community Associations (RW) should also protect domestic workers in their areas.

Regarding age, domestic workers must be at least 18 years old unless they were already employed before this bill was passed into law.
