Jakarta (VIVA) — The National Awakening Party (PKB) is strengthening solidarity with victims of forest and land fires through its One Million Masks Movement.

The movement was initiated directly by PKB Central Executive Board (DPP) chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, also known as Cak Imin.

PKB DPP treasurer Bambang Susanto stressed that the movement was not merely an effort to hand out masks, but an instruction from Cak Imin for all party cadres to be present among affected communities.

He said mask distribution had begun in the regions in stages, taking into account the high demand and the availability of supplies from distributors.

“The One Million Masks Movement from Gus Muhaimin has already begun in PKB regions. Hundreds of thousands of masks have been distributed in the first phase, and we will continue in stages. We are adjusting to distributors because demand for masks is currently so high,” Bambang said on Saturday (17 October 2026).

Bambang said Cak Imin had stressed that PKB must not be absent from efforts to respond to forest and land fire disasters.

All levels of the party have been asked to make the movement an ongoing expression of mutual assistance, rather than a one-off form of aid.

“This is not merely a mask-distribution campaign, but a movement of care. Gus Muhaimin wants PKB to remain present for our brothers and sisters affected by the fires. People must not feel that they are facing this disaster alone,” he said.

Solidarity across regions is a key focus of the instruction. Bambang said Cak Imin had directed regional and branch boards (DPW and DPC) in areas unaffected by the fires to help other regions.

“DPW and DPC in unaffected areas must also help. We should not act only when our own area experiences a disaster. When our brothers and sisters are struggling, we must share their burden and step in to help,” he said.

Bambang said cadres at every level, from the national leadership to the regions, must consistently uphold the spirit of mutual assistance called for by Cak Imin.

“Gus Muhaimin’s mandate is mutual assistance. This movement must therefore continue. PKB cadres must always be present among the public, listen to their difficulties and help as best they can. It must not stop simply because the first phase of aid has been distributed,” Bambang said.
