Cak Imin Highlights Slow Handling of Islamic Boarding School Sexual Violence Cases in Pati
The General Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (commonly known as Cak Imin), has highlighted the slow handling of sexual violence cases in several regions, including Pati Regency, Central Java. This was stated by Cak Imin during his opening remarks at the National Meeting of Islamic Boarding Schools: Movement of Pesantrens Against Sexual Violence, held in Jakarta on Monday night (18/05/2026).
“To the Chief of the National Police, represented here by Mrs. Nurul Azizah, I sincerely hope that we act swiftly. I have heard that in Pati, the process is quite slow, and in several other places, it is somewhat sluggish,” said Cak Imin. “Let us work together; I and the PKB are ready to assist the National Police to resolve this quickly.”
In addition to critiquing the performance of regional law enforcement, Cak Imin also called upon the Ministry of Religious Affairs to tighten supervision over religious educational institutions to prevent the misuse of ‘pesantren’ status. “To the Minister of Religious Affairs, let us move together so that we can anticipate fraudulent boarding schools, ensuring that sham shamans do not pose as Kyais (religious leaders),” he remarked.
On the same occasion, Cak Imin urged all local governments to immediately establish emergency complaint hotlines that are accessible even at the lowest levels of administration. “To all local governments, I truly hope you open hotlines—the most accessible hotlines possible,” he emphasised.
It was previously reported that the founder and leader of the Ndholo Kusumo Islamic Boarding School, Kiai Ashari (51), has been named a suspect after being arrested by a joint team from the Pati City Police and the Central Java Regional Police in Wonogiri on Thursday (07/05/2026) following his escape. The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for Central Java Province has ensured that the educational rights of the dozens of students affected by the sexual violence case remain fulfilled. Learning processes for the students continue through prepared schemes, despite the boarding school’s operational permit having been revoked since 5 May 2026.
