Cak Imin Highlights Phenomenon of New MBG Entrepreneurs: So Happy, They're Flexing on Social Media

Jakarta, VIVA – Coordinating Minister (Menko) for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin, has highlighted the emergence of new entrepreneurs thanks to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. This includes, he said, the phenomenon of flexing or flaunting wealth by some of these new entrepreneurs. “If we look at social media and many who come to this office, a sense of gratitude is growing among many new entrepreneurs. They’re so happy that sometimes they even flex on social media,” said Cak Imin at the Reflection on One Year of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme event, Thursday, 16 April 2026. According to Cak Imin, the actions of these entrepreneurs are essentially just to report blessings and show gratitude as taught in religion. “That’s normal, but it’s fulfilling the religious command, ‘If there is a blessing, then tell it, announce it’. That’s the flexing right there. Wa ammā bini’mati rabbika fa ḥaddiṡ, That’s the misunderstanding there,” he explained. Nevertheless, Cak Imin reminded that this flexing phenomenon should not lead to polemics in society. He also encouraged the new entrepreneurs involved in the MBG programme to be wiser and enhance their creativity and innovation. “Therefore, to the new entrepreneurs, be grateful, foster creativity and innovation without it becoming controversial,” Cak Imin concluded.
